Seeking Long-Term Satisfaction From Your Mums?

Sep. 17th, 2018 by W Scott McAdam Jr.

When it comes to mums, what should you really be looking for?

Do you seek instant gratification, only to have those good vibes disappear after a few weeks? Or are you in it for the long haul, seeking a long-blooming, hardy plant that will thrive through the end of the season?

While the mums at big-box stores are in bloom now, you will find they will wilt and become brown rather quickly, leaving you disappointed and wanting more. Why does this occur? These mums were likely grown in warm greenhouses to flush leaf growth and then chilled to force blooms to set earlier than is natural.

At McAdam Nursery and Garden Center, we offer All Season Extender Mums. These typically will not begin to break bud until late September, but with proper care they should thrive through Thanksgiving.

The best time to purchase your mums is when they are in the budding stage or just beginning to show color to maximize the blooming time. From there, you will have ample time to enjoy them flourish. Hint: Our mums are budding right now!

At our Nursery and Garden Center, mums and fall annuals are now in stock, with two-gallon Mums priced at $9.99. Questions? Call us at 708-771-4903 or swing by from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
