In this crowded landscaping market, a consumer’s first challenge is to distinguish between reputable and not-so-reputable contractors. How can you spot the difference?
In Illinois, here is one of the first questions you should ask a business: Are you a member of the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association (ILCA)?
All ILCA members are licensed and insured—a crucial component amid a very large rogue market of independent contractors that do not follow safety or labor regulations. As a result, these shady outfits put all their customers at great financial and legal risk. ILCA membership is also a key indicator of whether you are dealing with professionals who possess up-to-date training, have the latest technical and business skills, and have kept up with trends through trade shows, trade publications, networking and more.
My dad, Scott Sr., is the only person ever to have served twice as ILCA president. Currently, I am on its Board of Directors. Over McAdam Landscaping’s 40-year history, our involvement with the ILCA has been instrumental in our success. Even more importantly, McAdam clients have reaped the benefits of that association and its commitment to professionalism.
