There was a big reward for those who were not discouraged by the pessimistic weather forecast and came out for “A Day in Our Village” at Scoville Park on June 7th.
The sun broke through, it actually began feeling like June, and the 42nd annual version of the event was yet another reminder of the wonderful, diverse organizations and people in our community.
For the 10th consecutive year, we were pleased to have a booth in our usual spot in the southeast corner of the festival. We gave away basil and other plants, offered advice on a variety of topics, and booked appointments with individuals looking to discuss in depth their landscaping or gardening needs.
Fittingly, our neighboring booth was The Sugar Beet Co-Op, which is nearing its opening date this summer at 812 W. Madison St.
Six weeks ago, I had the pleasure of touring the site with founder Cheryl Munoz. We look forward to identifying ways in which we can collaborate with this full-service, member-owned grocery store that will be a vibrant market for local, sustainably grown foods.
